Description
Medieval dance: Volume 3 26 first treatises and choreographic sources 1445-1530
This publication presents 28 extracts from the first 26 treatises and choreographic sources of the History of Dance in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, between 1445 and 1530. These 28 choreographies are translated and interpreted, all intended to be played and danced by amateurs and enthusiasts or by the simply curious wishing to learn about the art of basse danse and ballo, courtly music and dance of the 15th and early 16th centuries. The reconstruction method used represents an archaeo-choreographic proposal among others, but always based on historical documents and in particular on a complete, global and synthetic study of dance in the European courts of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance.

Catherine Ingrassia A lifelong dance enthusiast, Catherine Ingrassia began her research into medieval dance in 1982, when she completed a Master's degree and a PhD in Art History on the iconography of dance in the Middle Ages at the Sorbonne. Her research into archaeo-choreography and her regular practice led her to discover many different dance techniques, enabling her to propose a new vision of the history of dance in the Middle Ages. In 2000, she founded MORESCAROLE, an organization that brings the re-enactment of medieval dances and performances to the public, and offers conferences, publications and workshops to disseminate the results of her research into medieval dance. It is a member of the International Dance Council (c/o UNESCO). morescarole.fr
